Centenary
Vision |
|
| |
Our Centenary
(2009) Vision can best be explained with reference to a wheel, which consists
of a rim, five spokes, and a hub.
The RIM of the wheel is the mission statement of our church: ‘to
be a sign of the Kingdom of God in a broken world’. This is what
Pinetown Methodist Church exists to do.
|
|
Specifically,
our Vision of what we should look like in 2009 is reflected in the answers
to three important questions:
|
• Who will we be?
• How will we express our faith?
• What will our mission and outreach look like?
|
WHO WILL WE BE?
|
• The congregation of Pinetown Methodist Church will be those
who have experienced, and are experiencing, the saving power of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
• The congregation will reflect the population profile of the
greater Pinetown area, in terms of age, gender, culture, language, colour,
and socio-economic background.
• The worshipping congregation will have grown in size from its
present 400. At least 20% of the congregation will be new Christians.
• We will be a community of welcoming embrace, passionate faith,
and healing care.
|
HOW WILL WE EXPRESS OUR FAITH?
|
The membership wheel accurately expresses how we will express our faith:
|
THE HUB OF THE WHEEL
REPRESENTS GOD |
Everything we do will be done from a God-centred and Spirit-inspired,
perspective. This means that we will do things differently to the way
the world does things.
THE SPOKES OF THE WHEEL REPRESENT THE ‘FIVE CALLS’ TO OUR
MEMBERS
Life-changing Prayer: Every aspect of congregational life will be bathed
in prayer, especially Sunday Worship. The congregation will be helped
to grow in their personal and corporate prayer life.
Authentic Worship: Sunday worship will be characterized by joyful adoration
of God, humble acknowledgement of our fallenness, proclamation of the
forgiveness of sins, celebrating our togetherness in Christ, holding
up the pain of the congregation and the world before God, and declaring
the life changing truth about God, ourselves and our world revealed
in the scriptures.
Caring Small Groups: Every member will be involved in a small group
through which they are growing spiritually.
Life-giving Service: Every member, knowing their unique worth and giftedness,
will serve God in a ministry which is life-giving both for them and
for those individuals or ministries impacted by it.
Generous Giving: Every member will be growing in joyful, sacrificial
and generous giving.

WHAT WILL OUR MISSIONS
AND OUTREACH LOOK LIKE? |
The relationship between the congregation and the missions will be such
that each gives life to the other. Our current missions (John Wesley
School, Sizanani and Phakamisa) will, building on the solid foundation
already established, be changing and growing to meet the ever-changing
realities of our broken world. The Retirement Centre will be established,
and will be duplicated at the local and District level. A ministry of
hospitality will have emerged, whereby PMC hosts pilgrimages, mission
groups and learning groups from across the Connexion and world.
